Fashion month ended where it so often does: at Louis Vuitton. On the evening of 6 October 2026, Nicolas Ghesquière's spring/summer 2027 show closed Paris Fashion Week, and with it the whole September–October circuit that runs through New York, London, Milan and Paris. The front row was stacked with house ambassadors, among them Saoirse Ronan, Emma Stone and Lisa. But the look people were talking about by the time the lights came up belonged to Zendaya.

The look: ruffles, made casual

Zendaya, styled as ever by Law Roach, wore a white lace top with a big ruffled trim around the neckline and cuffs. Worn with more lace, a top like that tips into costume. Roach went the other way. Under it went a plain white tank; with it, a pair of straight-leg jeans; and on her feet, the pointed pumps she wears so often they've become her signature.

All the drama sits up top. Everything below the waist is everyday. That split is why the ruffles looked effortless and not theatrical.

Wait, haven't we seen that top before?

Yes. As Vogue pointed out, Zendaya first wore the ruffled top in July, at the Paris premiere of The Odyssey, where she paired it with a white lace gown. Both pieces were Louis Vuitton. In July it was full evening dressing. In October, with a tank and jeans, it read as something you could almost wear to lunch.

It isn't the first time she's re-worn a big piece, either. On The Drama press tour she brought back the ivory Vivienne Westwood gown she first wore to the Oscars in 2015. Re-wearing is now a deliberate part of how she and Roach work, and every time they do it, it says the same thing: a piece is worth more when you can find a second, totally different way to style it.

Why it matters beyond the front row

Closing-night looks set the tone for what gets copied next, and this one is a lesson in ratio. You don't need a full look of statement pieces. One loud item plus two or three quiet basics is enough to stand out without trying too hard. It's also a good argument for buying fewer, more interesting pieces and styling them several ways, which is the most useful thing a celebrity look can teach anyone.

How to wear a ruffled top with jeans

1. Choose one statement and let it lead

Pick a blouse with ruffles in one or two places, collar and cuffs being the classic choice, rather than ruffles all over. White or ivory lace keeps it fresh, not fussy.

2. Layer a plain tank underneath

A fitted white ribbed tank gives sheer lace some opacity and adds a tougher, off-duty feel. Match the white tones as closely as you can so the layers look intentional.

3. Keep the denim straight and clean

Straight-leg jeans in mid or rinse blue balance the volume up top. Skip rips, heavy fading and very wide legs. You want the jeans to look neat next to all that lace.

4. Finish with a pointed shoe

A pointed pump lengthens the leg and adds polish. If heels aren't practical, a pointed flat or slingback does the same job.

5. Edit everything else

No necklace fighting the ruffled collar, no busy bag. Small earrings at most, and a simple, low-key bag.

Shopping notes

The blouse: search for "lace ruffle collar blouse" or "Victorian-style lace top". Vintage shops are good hunting ground.

The tank: a thick, close-fitting cotton rib that won't go see-through.

The jeans: a high-rise straight leg with a full-length hem that just meets the top of your shoe.

The shoe: a pointed court in nude, black or white.

The takeaway

Louis Vuitton closed Paris Fashion Week, and Zendaya closed the conversation. One ruffled lace top, worn twice, styled two completely different ways. If you take one idea from this season's front rows into your own wardrobe, make it this one: the piece you already own just needs new company.
