Comic Con is not usually where the fashion crowd looks first. Hunter Schafer keeps changing that. At New York Comic Con this weekend, the actor turned up to the Blade Runner 2099 panel in a look that had walked the Prada runway in Milan only weeks earlier, and Vogue called it one of her best Comic Con style serves yet.
The look: Prada spring 2027, Look 35
According to Vogue's Christian Allaire, Schafer and her stylist, Dara Allen, went for Look 35 from the spring 2027 collection by Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons: a graphic pink-and-black pencil skirt with a minty green-and-black tube top. Following the runway styling, she added patent mule stilettos, which Vogue said gave it "an effortless, slightly '90s feel."
The skirts were the talking point of the show. Vogue noted that when the collection debuted a few weeks ago, "the fashion world went wild" for its "zingy assortment of skirts." Wearing one in public before almost anyone else is the kind of early access only a long-standing house relationship buys, and Vogue described Schafer as "a true Prada girl" for whom "the best looks are yours for the taking."
Why it works
The outfit is built on contrast. A pencil skirt is the most office-coded shape in fashion, but in a graphic pink and black it becomes playful. The mint tube top keeps the upper half bare and simple, so the colour clash does the work instead of any extra detail. The patent mules finish it with a little shine, without the formality of a closed pump.
It also suits the setting. Comic Con is loud, crowded and full of costume, so a look built on bold colour and a strong silhouette reads clearly from the back of a panel hall and in photographs.
There is a practical lesson in the proportions, too. A pencil skirt that hits around the knee, paired with a strapless top, shows the shoulders and the calves while covering the middle, which keeps the outfit balanced. Because both pieces are fitted, nothing competes with the print. And by following the runway styling almost exactly, rather than adding her own jewellery or a jacket, Schafer let the collection be seen the way its designers intended, which is part of why fashion editors reacted so quickly. It reads as a celebrity look and a first look at the season at the same time.
The Blade Runner 2099 panel
Schafer was there with her co-stars from Prime Video's upcoming miniseries Blade Runner 2099. Vogue reported that the panel brought together Michelle Yeoh, Matthew Needham and Dimitri Abold alongside Schafer, at Manhattan's Javits Center, on a weekend that also drew stars such as Sarah Paulson and Nicolas Cage.
It is not her first convention moment this year. Vogue recalled her Marc Jacobs ensemble at San Diego Comic-Con in the summer, where the photo on this page was taken, so she is building a reputation for treating fan events like red carpets.
How to borrow the idea
You do not need a runway sample to try the formula. Take a fitted midi pencil skirt in a print or a bright colour, pair it with a plain, close-fitting top in a contrasting pastel, and keep the shoe sleek, such as a pointed mule. Keep jewellery minimal and let the colour contrast lead. It is the same principle behind many of the season's strongest looks: one strong idea, executed cleanly.
